It’s Kopi here! That tall pretty grey-golden affectionate
girl from Second Chance Kennel. I’m the one who loves to leave plenty of wet
kisses and sloppy licks on your face, the one always with generous doggie hugs.
Well I hope you remember who I am.
I have got some great news to announce today! Well great
news for me and perhaps not-so-great news for some of you as you won’t be
getting wet kisses, sloppy licks on your face and my loving doggie hugs
anymore. Why? Cos’ I’m reserving these for a special group of humans- my new
human family- the Ng family of Damansara!
I’m sooooooo so excited and happy to have found a loving
home! Thank you Mr & Mrs Ng and children for your loving kindness, for
opening your hearts and home to welcome me to be a part of the family! Finding
a furever home was my dream and my biggest wish since those lonely days as a
homeless puppy.
Thank you to Second Chance Kennel and my many rescuers for
making my wish come true. Wish you all the best and may you rescue many more
dogs in need!
Love & Hugz, wet kisses & sloppy licks
Kopi
But wait…..there’s more to tell…my life’s story…I urge you
to read on….
| Me at my new home! |
| I'm loving the size of this compound where I can freely move around in |
I grew up as an orphan, living on the streets where food and
water were scarce. The local weather fluctuating between hot & humid and
torrential downpour did not help either. To top it all off, I have had my fair share of
encountering unkind humans who would often kick and beat me just to chase me
away. I do not know why they treated me this way when all I wanted was some
scrapes of food just to get by. Though it was like hell on earth, I soldiered
on.
I travelled out only at night to avoid the unkind humans. As
time went by and due to scarcity of food & water, I became emaciated, left
with skin and bones but…. my worst was yet to come. On one awful day, someone
wanted to catch me. I did not know what he wanted to do to me hence my first
instinct was to struggle free but my hind leg came off its socket as a result.
In a state of panic and wanting to live on, I continued to hobble and run despite
the excruciating pain.
You could call it fate, an affinity, a higher power’s
intervention, I eventually made my way to a housing complex within a month’s
time. It was an unfamiliar place but somehow, instincts led me there where I
found my salvation.
Annie’s (the rescuer) Narration
It was never my habit to look over my balcony to the grounds
below but on that fateful day, I did so at around 7.30am when the sun was shining
brightly. A glowing white coated dog, the size of a Labrador caught my eye! I
was mesmerized by its beauty but saw that it was limping towards the entrance
gate and in a lot of pain. I dashed downstairs hoping to help it but it just
disappeared. Went in search of it for
the next few days to no avail and in the end I had to give up.
Slightly over a week later seeing that I have been trying to search for a dog, a neighbour informed me of an injured
dog hiding at the car park behind the housing complex. Equipped with a bag full
of water and kibbles, I rushed over to take a look. I whistled trying to get
the dog to come out, half expecting the white coated dog I saw a week earlier
but out came a hobbling, haggard looking puppy..it was not white in colour but
had an unusual grey/gold tinged coloured coat – it was a pitiful sight. I named
her Kopi.
Despite the suffering she went through, she had in her a
loving demeanor and waited patiently for me to give her food and water. I quickly
then guided her to a better hiding place in the car park where there were trees
for shade and away from moving vehicles. There she stayed happily for a few
months where I continued to feed her and bathed her. Kopi even met a cat called
Misai. They were the best of friends, Misai being the more senior resident even
showed Kopi other better spots to take shelter when the rain poured. The vet
advised that Kopi’s dislocated hind leg could be left to heal (to set
naturally) on its own, only if it did not get better would surgery be necessary.
The outcome was perfect as the dislocated part did eventually heal.
Things were going great until the dog catchers turned up.
Kopi was too trusting and was thus taken. Not knowing the Agents of Death
cameby I scoured the whole neighborhood for Kopi. Finally a kind neighbor informed
me what happened. By then it was already Thursday, Saturday was Death Day at the Pound. I frantically phoned
everyone and anyone who could take me to the pound to save Kopi. I badly needed a
ride as I could not drive and did not have a car.
First help came from Christine Lai of Malaysian Dogs Deserve
Better who roped in 2 compassionate young ladies, Reco and Mica who took me to
the pound. We managed to locate Kopi and took her out of that horrible place.
Kopi was taken to a vet’s clinic to be temporarily boarded there until she
could be checked into Second Chance Kennel where she stayed until recently when
she was finally adopted.
Thank you to all parties involved who gave Kopi a second
chance in life!

Annie's message to all
Should you see any animal in need of help, pls help. You can either feed them, provide them a safe place to live or whatever in your power to save them from anymore suffering. It may be physically and emotionally challenging activity but rewarding and empowering as well. Please do something good for our voiceless 4 legged friends.....
