I have been volunteering with Second Chance for at least eight months now. It started off with an adoption drive back in July last year, and weeks later, I was called by Auntie Kim to meet up with some other volunteers to start a training programme for the dogs at the shelter.
What I learnt in the weeks to come (from the training crew) was something that exceeded my expectation. The people and dogs I met, the lessons I learnt.. they were priceless. TJ, who was in charge of teaching us how to handle the dogs, taught us so much about understanding our dogs' behavior. I looked forward to each and every weekend there was training.
Anyways, this blog entry isnt entirely about the Training Crew. It is about Serdang. I picked Serdang on the first day of training and ever since then, I have only adored him more and more. And I hope someone out there, who can see the beauty of Serdang, just like how I do, will adopt him.
This is Serdang.
Over the next few months as we did our training, (you can check out Elise's post about the training) I became more drawn towards him. He did not get easily excited as compared to the other dogs and more importantly, he seemed to know what he was doing.
The only thing that frustrated me throughout the training process was that he refused to succumb to any treats. Food is not really a big deal to this fella.
I would adopt Serdang myself if I could. But because I cant, I sincerely hope someone out there can.. so Serdang can finally find a place to call home.
And no, this post isnt an April Fool's joke. ;)
