New Shelter on the Way

We have to thank all the donors who responded to our calls and appeals for donations towards the new shelter fund. Some of the significant amounts came from Mr. & Mrs Beh (RM50K), Tan Pau Son (RM6K), Lorna Chan (RM5K), Madam Kwok Lai Yong & family and friends (RM8K), Karmen & Vincent's Wedding ang pow, Teo Choo Guan & family (RM11K), Iris Jane (RM15K), Ian Lyons (RM5K), United Staff Enterprise SB (RM2K), Lim Kong Heng (RM3K), Ngor Pooi Har (RM1K), Mr Mah (RM1K), Rodney (RM1K), Lew Oon Yew (RM2K), Yoon Mun Chiew (RM1K) . those generous donors who remain anonymous, not to forget our regular donors Mr. Kok and Geeta.

We also must thank Ms Tee from Tee Bee Kim & Partners for the preparation of legal documents.

For the past year, the building committees have been carrying out discussion after discussion, amendments after amendments and finally we have come up with a building plan.

Mrs Lai, Sin, Miss Tan, Kim, Ivy, Nicole and Mr. Leong have been instrumental in designing the shelter, they always met for discussion over tea after the busy Sunday ground works and we must say they have done a fantastic job!

The new shelter will have a built up area of 110 ft by 160 ft on a land area of  half an acre. It comprises 24 kennels of various sizes (10'x15'; 14' x15'; 15'x 20'; 14'x20'; 20'x30') and 11 kennels of 5'x10' , a new arrival kennel of 20'x 45' and 3 isolation sick rooms of 20'x30' each together with an office, a kitchen, a store and a staff bedroom. It will have light industrial zinc roofing sheets, wire netting on 3 ft plastered brick wall in kennels,  full height plastered wall in stores, staff bedroom and sick rooms. The flooring will be 3"-5" concrete slab with cement finishing. The flooring of the whole shelter will be cemented to make cleaning works easier  and also more hygienic, not to mention to prevent the spread of virus. To ensure smooth drainage, bigger drains have to be built. And also to minimise maintenance cost, metal trusses and metal gates are used and kennel poles are of m.s.metal on concrete base.

Sin, Kim and Miss Tan are part of  the building designer team for the new shelter

The  construction cost quoted by the contractor is RM233K  including plumbing, electrical wiring & fittings, water wells and sewerage systems . We hope to raise another 100K to cover the cost. As we have to leave the existing site in Jalan Klang Lama, Kuala Lumpur in few months time to give way for development, we have started on the earth works, the shelter  will take about 3-4 months to be completed. Our dogs will not have to live in crammed space and will have a more comfortable home to stay.

If you wish to donate towards this good cause of building a better shelter for them, kindly bank into CIMB account of 1428 0005 822051  under the joint names of our treasurers of Lim Mei Leng & Sim Hui Ling and please drop a note to info@2ndchance-kennel.com. We would like to say a big Thank You for your kindness and generosity!
